Respect the man who walks away

I like pro football. I’m not a rabid fan like some friends but it’s the one sport I do look forward to when the season starts.

But I know that it is an extremely hard sport to reach pro level competence.

And when you arrive, you can make a lot of money. But at what price?

One player decided the price was too high. He realized after some reflection that he was …” a pawn in a machine that controlled his life and that he no longer wanted to meet the expectations attached to that life.”

You have to respect a man who has this epiphany and walks away. So many stay and end up with costs that far outweigh the perceived benefit we think one would get.

(nod to Dappered style for bringing this to the fore)
